Summer Reading 2020

Our Summer Reading Program will begin on Monday, June 15 and continue through Saturday, August 28.
UPDATE: We have extended our youth Summer Reading Program through Friday, September 4.

You are invited to read and listen to books, earn prizes, and participate in library events this summer.  Although we can't meet in person now, we will have activities for you to explore at home in addition to online events.

This summer will be different from previous years, but we are looking forward to encouraging reading and listening to books and to hosting fun events and projects.

Registration:  Please register here.

Events

UPDATE:
New event: Game Nights
We're joining with two other libraries (Fraser Public Library and Holly Township Library) for Teen Game Nights. We'll meet on Zoom and play virtual versions of board games on Board Game Arena.
We're starting on Thursday, August 13 at 6:30 and will meet every two weeks.
You will need an account with Board Game Arena to play. It is free. To sign up, you need an email address and to choose a user name. Teens, make sure you are following your parents' online guidelines.  Create an account on Board Game Arena here: https://boardgamearena.com/

If you have any questions, please let us know. We hope to see you there!

Events for the first half of the summer are on the flyer below and can be opened as a pdf here.

We have tentative events planned for the entire summer, but will evaluate if we should make any changes before publicizing the end-of-summer schedule.

TNT Tuesdays will meet every other Tuesday afternoon for games, book discussion, craft projects, and more.   If you'd like to join us, please register here.

Our next TNT Tuesdays will be:

July 21 at 1:00 for 6th - 8th graders and at 3:00 for 9th - 12th graders
We'll play a game on Zoom: Code Names, Name 5, Partners in Pen, or maybe something else!  If you've registered for TNT Tuesdays, check your email to let us know your preference.

August 4 at 1:00 for 6th - 12th graders  Canceled due to lack of registration
We'll make mini Zen gardens.  You can pick up the supplies from the library in advance and then we'll meet on Zoom to create them together.

Reading logs

To keep things simpler this year, we only have one reading log: counting each day that you read.

You may adapt the reading log to work for you.  If you can't read one day and you read more than usual on another day, you can count that for the day you missed. The important thing is that you read or listen to books and enjoy them!

We know some avid readers want to keep track of the amount of time they read throughout the summer. We hear you!  You can record the amount of time you read each day on your reading log. We will still ask you to enter the drawing for every 10 days, but we'll have an optional place on the form for you also to tell us how much you have read.

  • You can open our reading log as a pdf and print a copy here.
  • Or you can save the image to your device.
  • If you need to pick up a reading log from the library, please let us know here or email us at youth@milanlibrary.org.  We will get in touch with you about how to pick one up from us.

There is additional information on the reading logs.
If you have any questions, please let us know here or email us at youth@milanlibrary.org.

Prize entry form

When you complete a goal, enter your virtual tickets in the prize drawing here.  In previous years, you put your tickets in the prize drawing box at the library. This year, you'll enter them virtually on the form.

Questions

If you have any questions, please let us know here or email us at youth@milanlibrary.org. We look forward to seeing you (virtually!) this summer.
